No-one likes to lose 5-1 but I sincerely want to commend our team for their display against a very skillful Greensboro team. After the game both the referee and the coach of the Greensboro team commented how well our team played for being 2 years younger than most of the opposing team. In fact Scott, the Twisters coach mentioned that he added several players that were playing classic soccer last year and decided to play challenge for their senior year.

I liked our goal. Katelyn to Alex then back to Katelyn to slot it home. I also liked the hard work that the players displayed this afternoon. I commented that several players probably ran 2-3 miles during the game.

All setbacks are temporary. I look forward to next weekend.

Some very good soccer today in the opening game against Yadkin Fusion. We got off to a great start with a wonderful play by Megan to win the ball from a throw-in and then take the ball to the line, cross to Alex who was in a great position to score. We could have had several more goals but our shots were a bit rushed and the goalkeeper ended up saving many shots.

This was our first full 90-minute game and we knew both teams would start to get tired towards the end of the second half. We had some great plays and more or less dominated all the possession. Our second came as the goalkeeper could not handle the ball from Roxanne and Sophie was there to slot the rebound home. Kasey then had a breakaway and calmly slotted the ball into the left side of the goal to get our third. The play of the game for me was when Katelyn crossed the ball from the right side of the field behind the defenders and straight to Roxanne who made a clinical finish. Our fifth goal came off a corner kick that Katelyn headed down towards goal - it hit a Yadkin player and then into the net as an own goal. Katelyn was involved one more time as she scored a convincing goal to get goal number 6.

Much credit should go to our defense and midfield who were very solid and effective in stopping the Fusion from advancing towards goal and setting up many of the goals.

Furniture City Classic

What an awesome weekend of high quality soccer!

We had three games over the two days of the tournament and we came out with two wins and one tie to finish top of the division with 7 points.

This was a classic game that we will remember for a long time. The Lady Twins Royal are a great team, having won the State Cup for the last two years running. Awesome goals from Sophie (this one gave me goose bumps!), Stacie (rocket shot) and Randi (wow!).

An easier game for us that could have easily have been double digits. The first half was a bit frustrating as we were not playing that well, but we talked about making the 2nd half more memorable and we came out meaning business.

A win or a tie would seal the champions slot for us and the PTFC Lady White came through! This was a tough game for us against a good team that we know very well. Down 0-1 at half time we knew we needed to keep pressing and Roxanne's goal was a beauty. After we scored the Dolphins seemed to give up and we kept pushing the ball down on their end. When the whistle blew it took a few moments to sink in that we were Champions - but then we didn't stop celebrating for over 1/2 hour. These are the moments you savor as a coach.

KSA Fall Warm-Up

This is a great tournament to get ready for the season. A unique format is used where we can substitute "on the fly" like indoor soccer and can call a time-out if needed. We played three games, won two and lost one.
